Stroke

When blood can't reach part of the brain.

Please read this first

A new, sudden weakness, a drooping face, or sudden trouble speaking needs emergency medical help straight away. Call for help first.

A short film of what happens — no sound needed.

1Step 1

What's happening

A stroke happens when blood suddenly can't reach a part of the brain. Blood carries oxygen, and without it that part of the brain stops working properly.

The brain is in charge of moving, speaking, and balancing. So a stroke can suddenly change how an arm, a leg, or speech works.

The hurt is in the brain — not in the arm or the leg. That is why recovery is really about helping the brain find new paths.

The brain can re-learn. With the right exercises, done a little every day, real recovery is possible — and it can keep going for years.

2Step 2

What you may see at home

  • One side of the body — an arm, a leg, or the face — feels weak or heavy
  • Speech is slurred, or words are hard to find
  • Trouble swallowing food or water, or coughing while eating
  • Loss of balance, or a fear of standing and walking
  • Feeling low, frustrated, or quiet and withdrawn

Many families notice these. Seeing them does not mean the worst — it means it is time to start the right kind of help.

3Step 3

How we help

  1. 1We watch how you move and listen to your story, so we understand exactly where you are.
  2. 2We make a simple set of exercises to do at home — built around your rooms, your chairs, your doorways.
  3. 3We teach a family member to do the exercises with you, safely, every day.
  4. 4We check in often and change the plan as you get stronger.
4Step 4

What getting better looks like

  1. The first weeks

Small wins — a stronger grip, sitting up with less help. Steady work in this time matters the most.

  2. The first few months

Bigger changes — standing, first steps, clearer speech. This is when most recovery happens.

  3. Over the year and beyond

Slower but real progress — more independence and more confidence, as long as the work continues.

Every recovery is different. We will always tell you the truth about yours — what is working, and what to expect next.
